Prabowo Inaugurates Taruna Nusantara High School Malang, Prepares 500 Flagship Schools in 4 Years
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Taruna Nusantara (TN) High School Campus Malang, East Java, Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
In his speech, Prabowo emphasized that mastering science and technology is the main foundation for national development, people's welfare, and a way out of poverty and hunger.
Prabowo said that SMA Taruna Nusantara was built to recruit the best sons and daughters of the nation with superior academic capacity. They are prepared as cadres of future leaders who are educated, patriotic, and responsible.
"The development of the nation lies in the ability to achieve science and technology. Without it, we will not achieve a high civilization," said Prabowo.
He gave an example that many developed and developed countries have similar similar networks. Therefore, the government is expanding the Taruna Nusantara High School network. Currently, Indonesia has three campuses, namely in Magelang, Malang, and Cimahi. The construction of new campuses is also taking place in the Nusantara Capital Region (IKN), North Sulawesi (Minahasa), and South Sumatra (Pagar Alam), which are targeted to start operating by the end of December 2026.
In addition, Prabowo announced plans to establish 20 new schools named SMA Garuda. The target is that almost every province has one Taruna Nusantara High School or SMA Garuda. The government also prepares one integrated flagship school in each district. "We hope that 500 flagship schools can be completed in four years," said Prabowo.
On the other hand, Prabowo stated that the government would renovate 60 thousand schools this year out of a total of around 300 thousand schools in Indonesia. According to him, education is an instrument for development, welfare, and democracy, as well as a key to eradicating poverty.
