Meta Announces Meta Compute, a New Generation of Large-Scale AI Infrastructure

JAKARTA - Meta announced a new strategic initiative called Meta Compute, which will focus on building large-scale computing infrastructure to support the development of the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI).

"Meta plans to build infrastructure with a capacity of tens of gigawatt this decade, and hundreds of gigawatt or more over time," said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his statement on Threads. Zuck also revealed that Meta Compute's initiative will be led by Santosh Janardhan and Daniel Gross.

Santosh will continue to be responsible for technical architecture, software stack, silicon programming, developer productivity, as well as the development and operation of Meta's global network and data centers.

Meanwhile, Daniel will lead a new group responsible for long-term capacity strategy, supplier partnerships, industry analysis, planning, and business modeling.

The two will also work with Dina Powell McCormick, who has just joined as President and Vice Chairman of Meta.

"They will work closely with Dina Powell McCormick, who has just joined Meta as President and Vice Chairman, to work on partnerships with governments and sovereign states in building, implementing, investing in, and financing Meta's infrastructure," Zuck explained.

Zuckerberg called Meta Compute an important foundation for the company's ambition to bring "personal superintelligence" to billions of users around the world.
