Commission II of the DPR is trying to revise the Election Law to be completed this year
Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, said his party is trying to revise Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Pemilu) to be completed this year. Moreover, the revision of the Election Law has been included in the National Priority Program (Prolegnas) 2026.
"The Prolegnas is 2026, so the trust is on us, we will try to finish this year," said Rifqinizamy at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 13.
Rifqinizamy said that the discussion on the revision of the Election Law would be discussed starting this month by receiving input from various parties related to the election.
"There are two terms that we will do to discuss the Election Law. The first term starts from this January, we will bring all stakeholders to the election, including the public who want to convey their thoughts and views regarding our election design," said Rifqi.
"Regarding the pluses and minuses of various existing electoral systems, and the evaluation of the existence of our elections so far. It is important for us to get insight from various parties while fulfilling the obligation for the DPR to present what we call meaningful participation," continued the NasDem Legislator.
The second term, continued Rifqinizamy, the Commission II of the DPR RI will form a Panja or Working Committee for the Formation of the Election Law.
"Well, from the Panja, it will be possible to see the inventory of problems in the Election Law and the views of the factions in Commission II of the DPR RI related to our future Election Law," he explained.
Rifqinizamy added, today the Commission II of the DPR will start making a schedule and target for discussing the revision of the Election Law. Furthermore, the Panja will ask the DPR RI Expert Agency to draft the bill.
"If we make a timeline, then the timeline will be discussed today at the internal meeting of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, approximately January, February, March, April, we will gather public views," he said.
"Then after that, maybe the Panja will be formed along with we also assign the DPR Expertise Agency, yes, now to draft the academic script and the draft bill," concluded Rifqinizamy.
