Ryan Garcia vs Mario Barrios for the World Title
JAKARTA - American fighter Ryan Garcia has the opportunity to fight for the WBC welterweight world title against fellow countryman Mario Barrios.
The two boxers will face each other at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States, on February 21, 2026. The fight will be the main event in a Ring Magazine event that will be broadcast live on DAZN.
"I will be world champion on February 21, 2026," Garcia said as quoted by TalkSport.
Barrios, who has a record of 29 wins, two draws, and two losses, was elevated from interim champion to full WBC welterweight champion in June 2024. Since then, he has defended his title twice through two controversial draws.
The first victory was achieved against the less famous Abel Ramos in November 2024 and the second against the Filipino boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao, who is 46 years old in July 2025.
"Becoming the WBC welterweight world champion is more than just a moment. It's a promise to my family, my city, and everyone who believes in hard work when no one is watching," said Barrios.
Garcia, who has a record of 24 wins and two losses, last fought in May 2025 when he suffered a points defeat against Rolly Romero for the WBA regular belt at Times Square, New York.
Garcia has not won since December 2023 when he beat Oscar Duarte in eight rounds. Against Barrios marked his first appearance since serving a one-year ban for using the banned substance ostarine.
The winner of Garcia versus Barrios will be ordered to defend the belt against Conor Benn, who has been designated as the mandatory challenger for the world champion's belt.
