Microsoft Introduces Delete Copilot Feature, Here's How
Microsoft finally gives permission to Windows users who want to delete Copilot. This is good news because since its release, Microsoft has not provided an option to delete or disable the AI feature.
This policy is starting to be seen in the Windows 11 Insider Preview build update on the Developer and Beta Channels. Unfortunately, the ability to remove this Copilot installation is only available for administrator-managed devices with the Enterprise, Pro, and EDU editions.
The policy, which is called RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp, also has other requirements. If users want to remove Copilot from their devices, they must have Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot installed on the system. However, the Copilot application should not be installed by users.
Users also cannot run Copilot within 28 days. This requirement is quite difficult to meet because the Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant has an automatic login feature that is enabled by default. To make sure the application is not installed, be sure to disable the application from the Task Manager.
If Copilot is open intentionally or unintentionally, users must wait another 28 days to try to delete the application. After confirming that your device meets the requirements, the deletion can be performed by opening the Group Policy Editor, selecting User Configuration, tapping Administrative Templates, and then deleting Copilot in Windows AI.
Even though the requirements are a little troublesome, the presence of this feature is still good news because the Copilot removal option has been awaited by Windows users for a long time. This can be seen from the Copilot removal bug that was seen some time ago.
Last year, Windows got a bug that made Copilot accidentally deleted. This bug is actually dangerous, but many users welcomed the problem. According to them, at least Copilot that is useless on their device can be deleted.
