In the midst of the logo controversy, Uncle Birin emphasizes discipline and ethics of Lemkari
BANJARMASIN - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Karate-do Association (PB Lemkari), H. Sahbirin Noor, emphasized the importance of ethics and discipline in karate training, including in the competition.
The statement was made amid the dynamics of the Lemkari organization which had been hit by a legal controversy regarding the legality of the emblem.
The affirmation was conveyed by Sahbirin Noor, who is familiarly known as Uncle Birin, during a meeting and training with PB Lemkari at Kiram Park, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, Sunday, January 11, 2026.
"The title won by cheating is not a pride. Ethics and discipline must be upheld, including in the refereeing," said Uncle Birin, holder of the DAN VIII Karate belt.
He also alluded to two major tests that Lemkari experienced regarding the recognition of the organization's logo. According to Uncle Birin, the decision of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights still recognizes Lemkari which was founded by Seiko Anton Lesiangi as the legitimate owner.
"The truth will come in time. We never give up even if we are hit by a storm," said Uncle Birin in a written statement, Monday, January 12, 2026.
The joint training was led by the Chairman of the PB Lemkari Sihang Teacher Council Erwin Rofik, accompanied by Sihang Herman Iwan Linelejan, Sihang Faris, and Sensei Ling Ling. Around 100 karateka participated in the strengthening of the basic techniques of kihon and kata gojushiosho materials.
Sihang Erwin considers joint training to be important to straighten out the basic karate techniques that have been less meticulous. He emphasized that Lemkari adheres to the shotokan school which demands accuracy of movement and high discipline.
"Training is not enough in the dojo. It must be done continuously, including at home. Athletes are also required to understand international refereeing rules if they want to break into the world level," said Erwin.
The joint training was also attended by Jeanni Z. Monoarfa, the wife of the founder of Lemkari, Secretary General of PB Lemkari Sensei Ragil, Sihang Agung, and the ranks of MSH Lemkari South Kalimantan.
