Apple and Google Partnership Confirmed, Gemini to Integrate with Siri
Apple has entered into an agreement with Google to integrate the Gemini Artificial Intelligence (AI) model into Siri. This partnership is part of Apple's efforts to make Siri a more advanced assistant.
This is a victory for Google because its AI model continues to be utilized by major mobile phone manufacturers. Since 2024, Samsung has adopted Gemini in its flagship devices, namely the Galaxy S24 Series. The integration of Gemini on Samsung devices was then popularized as 'Galaxy AI'.
Google has managed to expand its AI market over the past few years thanks to its partnership with Samsung. In the future, Google can reach a wider market through its latest partnership with Apple. The company that develops the iPhone currently has two billion active devices.
Google, in an official statement, stated that the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be built on Gemini technology and Google's cloud services. With this integration, the Siri experience is expected to be much smarter and more personal as promised by Apple since 2024.
"After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google's AI technology provides the most capable and enthusiastic foundation with new innovative experiences it will bring to Apple users," Google said, quoted on Tuesday, January 13.
Even though Apple and Google have reached an agreement, the iOS developer is still partnering with OpenAI, which has been a partner since late 2024. Apple said that ChatGPT will remain integrated on its devices as before.
Another thing that is highlighted in this partnership is its privacy standards. Even though it uses Google's AI model, Apple will still prioritize its user privacy standards by running AI on systems it has developed previously.
"Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple's industry-leading privacy standards," Google added. "(Gemini) will help support future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personal Siri that will be available this year."
The news about this major collaboration immediately pushed the market value of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, past the $4 trillion mark (Rp67.4 quadrillion) on Monday, January 12. Investors also welcomed Google's move to outperform OpenAI in the contract.
