Jakarta Floods, Weather Modification to be Carried Out 5 Days Ahead

JAKARTA - The Head of the DKI Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Isnawa Adji said the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has started to carry out weather modification operations (OMC) to anticipate the potential for hydrometeorological disasters or extreme weather in the Jakarta area.

"BNPB has just held an OMC today until the next five days," said Isnawa in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 13.

According to him, the OMC was carried out to reduce the potential for hydrometeorological disasters in Jakarta, considering that on Monday (12/1) there was flooding in a number of areas.

He said that this time the OMC was carried out by BNPB first before it was continued by the DKI BPBD after the weather prediction from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"Furthermore, the DKI BPBD can continue, of course, also with the results of the BMKG prediction," said Isnawa.

As is known, the DKI Jakarta BPBD recorded that the flood in most areas of Jakarta began to gradually subside, and currently only 28 neighborhood units (RT) and six roads are still flooded on Tuesday morning.

"The current water level ranges from 10 to 60 centimeters," said Head of the BPBD DKI Jakarta Disaster Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan.

Previously, on Monday (12/1) evening, at 21.00 WIB, flooding inundated 63 RT in Jakarta, but gradually receded on Tuesday morning and left 28 RT still flooded.

In addition to flooding 28 RT, said Yohan, flooding is still occurring on six roads, with water levels ranging from 10 centimeters.
