Opening the Session, Puan Ensures that the DPR will Control Policies that Improve the Quality of People's Lives

JAKARTA - The Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, officially opened the Third Session of the 2025-2026 Session Year after undergoing a recess since mid-December 2025. In his speech, Puan ensured that the DPR would prioritize the interests of the people.

Puan led the plenary meeting directly accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Saan Mustopa, Adies Kadir, and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal.

Puan initially touched on the celebration of Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 in the midst of various natural disasters that hit a number of regions in the country. He also hopes that 2026 will bring goodness, peace, and prosperity to the country and all Indonesian people.

"This condition invites us to celebrate it with simplicity, sensitivity, and deep concern for our brothers and sisters who are facing difficult times," said Puan in a plenary meeting at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 13.

Puan then invited all parties to interpret the New Year 2026 as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, strengthen the value of mutual cooperation, and foster social concern.

"So that we can rise together, strengthen each other in hope, and grow optimism to move towards a better Indonesia in the future," said Puan.

Puan emphasized the commitment of the DPR to provide sincere and empathetic attention. "The DPR RI will continue to strive to present state policies that can improve the quality of people's lives," said Puan.

Puan then touched on various challenges in national development which require the active role and political responsibility of the DPR RI as a representative institution of the people. These challenges include achieving the target of economic growth which still requires structural reforms to be more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.

Then also the challenge in improving the quality of human resources in the face of global transformation, digitization, and the green economy. Furthermore, related to the improvement of transparent, accountable, and pro-people government governance.

Another challenge mentioned by Puan is regarding the equitable development of regions to reduce disparities and strengthen national unity, improving the quality of services for basic community needs such as education, health, food, and housing, to handling social and political issues wisely in order to maintain stability, unity, and national cohesion.

"Mitigating climate change and protecting the environment as part of the state's responsibility to future generations, and various other challenges," said Puan.

To face the complexity of these challenges, Puan stated that the DPR RI has a very strategic constitutional role through the functions of legislation, budgeting, and oversight.

"Therefore, it is necessary for the state, Government and DPR RI policies, which are designed with optimal priorities and strategies in the midst of fiscal space limitations," he said.

"The DPR RI will ensure that every policy and allocation of state budget truly responds to the needs of the people, promotes social justice, and ensures the sustainability of national development," continued Puan.
