High Rainfall until January 19, BMKG Sets Alert Status

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded light to heavy rain in most parts of Indonesia in recent days. In fact, very heavy rain was observed in a number of areas, such as West Java which reached 129.0 millimeters per day, Makassar with 126.7 millimeters per day, East Nusa Tenggara 126.0 millimeters per day, and Bali 120.0 millimeters per day.

BMKG explained that the weather conditions were influenced by the strengthening of the Asian monsoon accompanied by an increase in wind speed from the South China Sea to the southern region of Indonesia. This phenomenon strengthens the formation of a convergence area, thus triggering the growth of rain clouds more intensively.

In addition, the presence of low pressure areas in the eastern Australian region also modifies the pattern of regional wind circulation. This condition strengthens the slowing of air mass and supports the process of more intensive and continuous air rise, especially in the southern Indonesian region.

Weather Forecast 13-15 January 2026 BMKG predicts that from 13 to 15 January 2026, the weather in Indonesia will still be dominated by light to heavy rain. However, the potential for moderate to heavy rain that can be accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong winds still needs to be watched out for.

The alert status (moderate rain) is set for a number of areas, including Aceh, North Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, Bali, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, West Papua, Central Papua, West Papua, Papua, and South Papua.

Meanwhile, the alert status (heavy to very heavy rain) is enforced for West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua Mountains.

Potential strong winds are also predicted to occur in various regions, including Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, to Papua.

Weather Forecast 16-19 January 2026 Entering the period from 16 to 19 January 2026, the weather conditions are expected to be relatively similar. Light to heavy rain still dominates, with the chance of moderate to very heavy rain that is potentially accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong winds.

The alert status was set in a number of regions, such as Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Papua. Meanwhile, the standby status applies to West Sumatra, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua Mountains.

The BMKGBMKG appeal urges the public to increase vigilance against the potential for extreme weather that can change at any time and trigger hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds. The public is also asked to be careful when planning activities, especially land, sea, and air travel, as well as outdoor activities.

The latest weather information can be monitored through BMKG's official channels, such as www.bmkg.go.id, social media @infoBMKG, the InfoBMKG application, and the Digital Weather for Traffic (DWT) service.
