PDIP Urges Transformation and Strengthening of Oversight to Prevent the Police from Becoming a Political Tool

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) urges the transformation of the National Police to be implemented immediately. Don't let the Bhayangkara Corps become a short-term power tool.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Aceh PDIP DPD, Jamaluddin Idham, when reading the points of external recommendations at the closing of the 2026 I National Working Meeting (Rakernas) at the Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta, Monday, January 12.

"The first National Congress of the Party urges the government to immediately carry out the transformation of the National Police through the strengthening of substantive political accountability, to ensure that the police are upright as a state tool that is loyal to the constitution, not to short-term power," said Jamaluddin when reading the points of external recommendations.

"The National Congress urges the president to tighten the check and balance mechanism through sharper parliamentary oversight and the empowerment of Kompolnas with executive authority so that police actions can be held transparently accountable to the public," he continued.

PDIP, said Jamaluddin, this transformation is important so that the institution is free from practical politics. In addition, the party with the bull symbol also encourages the abolition of the dual function of the National Police in civil posts.

"As well as reallocating the budget for the welfare of Polri personnel who serve at the grassroots level, to ensure a professional, humanistic and trustworthy Polri."

In addition, the TNI is also in the spotlight of PDIP. In the external recommendation it is stated that they should be free from practical politics.

PDIP, continued Jamaluddin, urged the continuation of the development of defense forces based on the principle of independence or self-reliance; prioritizing domestic industries; and based on real threat studies without being dictated by the global market.

"The I National Congress encourages the government to strengthen the organization mechanism based on meritocracy, seniority, and measurable career levels to maintain the solidity of the TNI, as well as maintain single loyalty to the Constitution. At the same time, the government to ensure the improvement of soldiers' welfare through decent allowances and operational facilities, commensurate with the risks of their service in the field of duty. "

As previously reported, PDIP carried the theme 'Satyam Eva Jayate' with the sub-theme 'There I Stand, For Eternity' in the National Congress which was held from Saturday to Monday, January 10-12.

Meanwhile, Satyam Eva Jayate is a Sanskrit slogan which means "Truth will win".

The sub-theme "Di Sanalah Aku Berdiri untuk Selama-lamanya" was taken by quoting the Indonesian Raya song.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said his party's National Congress was attended by PDIP managers at the central and regional levels, represented by the chairman, secretary, and treasurer.

"This national congress will discuss political attitudes, including the party's answers to various geopolitical issues, ecological crises, corruption, economic issues, law enforcement, to the party's internal programs and the party's responsibility to the people," he said in a press statement, Friday, January 9.
