Restorative Justice for Suspects in the Case of False Degrees Depends on Jokowi

JAKARTA - Secretary General of Peradi Bersatu Ade Darmawan opened the opportunity to settle the case of the alleged diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) through the restorative justice (RJ) mechanism, especially against the respondents Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis.

This was conveyed by Ade after a brief coordination with the investigators of the Polda Metro Jaya, regarding the summoning of the reporters in the case.

"There is indeed a restorative application from the first cluster, including regarding the meeting of Bang Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis with Mr. Joko Widodo. That is what we discussed when we were called today," Ade told reporters at the Polda Metro Jaya, Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to Ade, his party in principle does not close the door to peace efforts as long as it is done in good faith and in accordance with legal procedures.

"We welcome the restorative justice effort. If that is a good way, why should people be imprisoned. We are open to it," he said.

However, Ade emphasized that the implementation of RJ was only possible for certain clusters. He assessed that there was a difference in legal positions between the first cluster and the second cluster in this case.

"For the second cluster, we still encourage it to be immediately transferred and tested in court. But for Bang Eggi and Damai Hari Lubis, we are still considering it," he said.

Ade said that the final decision regarding RJ would still be consulted with the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo as the main reporter.

"We can't make decisions on our own. This must be communicated to you in Solo. Whether we participate in peace or not, it is waiting for his direction," he explained.

He added that Peradi Bersatu in principle will respond to every legal step that is good and prioritizes humanity.

"We do not close the door to restorative justice. Everything will be thoroughly considered and reviewed together with investigators," he concluded.
