Relocation of Residents of Kebon Nanas TPU to Rusun, Pramono Free Rent for 6 Months, Especially the Elderly Forever

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially handed over the keys to a simple rental apartment (rusunawa) to residents who have been living on the Kebon Nanas Public Cemetery (TPU) land.

Of the total 103 families who (KK) previously settled in the Kebon Nanas TPU area, as many as 73 KK have expressed their willingness to be relocated to apartments. Meanwhile, 30 KK refused to be relocated to rusunawa and chose to find a place to live independently.

"The first phase of relocation has been carried out on January 6, 2026 for 27 families to five apartment locations, including Rusunawa Pulo Gebang. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government gives residents the freedom to choose the most suitable place to live," said Pramono at Rusunawa Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta, Monday, January 12.

Pramono said the DKI Provincial Government provided a six-month exemption from the cost of renting rusunawa for residents affected by relocation. Meanwhile, for the elderly, the exemption from the rental fee is given permanently.

"I believe that with 6 months, especially for the elderly, it is given for free forever, This will be very helpful for residents who are relocated," said Pramono.

Pramono explained that the policy of waiving the rent was given to give time for adaptation for residents who mostly depend on their livelihoods around the old location.

The former Cabinet Secretary admitted that relocating residents to new housing is not easy and requires a process of adjustment, as is the experience of relocation in a number of previous locations.

"To be moved is not easy. The average citizen has been there for 25 years, some for 30 years. Those who have felt it like their own home. Our experience in several places, including those we moved from Menteng Pulo II, indeed need adaptation. Honestly we admit it," he explained.

Therefore, Pramono asked the regional government to provide assistance, especially regarding education and the livelihood of residents. He also asked that children of residents who meet the requirements be facilitated to obtain the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP).

Furthermore, Pramono admitted that the release of land for residential areas occupied by this TPU was carried out to expand the cemetery land in Jakarta. Where, it is predicted that the cemetery land in Jakarta will be full in the next 3 years if there is no addition.

"The problem in Jakarta is one of them is TPU. In Jakarta we have 80 TPU. As many as 69 TPU can no longer be accommodated, normally, they must overlap, they must be superimposed. 11 that can still be and Kebon Nanas are actually included in those who can no longer be. Then the residents in the TPU who were placed by the residents who were more or less 3,000, which can accommodate 1,000 new tombs," said Pramono.
