Janji Cuan Fantastis Berujung Petaka, Investor Laporkan Penipuan Kripto ke Polda Metro
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has revealed a report of an investor who was a victim of alleged fraud in trading signals for crypto assets with the promise of huge profits. As a result of the incident, the victim reportedly suffered a loss of up to Rp. 3 billion.
The report is still in the investigation stage. The police have received a complaint from the victim with the initials Y and are now investigating the reported incident.
"True, there are reports related to crypto assets with the reporter with the initials Y. The reported is still in the process of investigation," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, in a written statement received in Jakarta, Sunday, January 11.
Investigators will call the reporter for clarification and conduct an analysis of the evidence that has been submitted to uncover the construction of the case.
"Investigators will investigate the report by inviting the reporter for clarification and analyzing evidence," he said.
Based on the report received by the police, the victim admitted to being part of a Discord group that offered recommendations or trading signals for crypto assets. In the group, the victim was promised fantastic profits of up to 300 to 500 percent.
In the police report it is stated that in January 2024 the victim received a signal to buy Manta Coin with the promise of a potential profit of hundreds of percent. Because he believed in the exposure and profit claims presented in the group, the victim then invested Rp. 3 billion.
However, instead of reaping profits, the price of Manta Coin has actually experienced a sharp decline. This condition makes the value of the victim's portfolio plummet to minus 90 percent, far from the promised profits.
"The price of the coin dropped drastically and caused huge losses that were not in line with what was promised," the report read.
Feeling cheated and suffering significant losses, the victim finally reported the incident to the Central Police Service Integrated Service (SPKT) of the Polda Metro Jaya to be processed further legally.
In handling this case, the police applied a number of articles, including Article 45A paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, as well as a number of articles in the Law on Transfer of Funds and the Criminal Code.
Polda Metro Jaya appeals to the public to be more careful about investment offers with unreasonable profit promises, especially those spread through social media or online chat groups.
