New KUHAP Comes into Effect, KPK Stops the Practice of Showing the Faces of Corruptors in Public
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it would not present suspects in the alleged corruption case in a press conference in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Code of Criminal Procedure or the new KUHAP.
"Maybe my colleagues asked a little different today. Today's press conference is a little different. 'Why is it not shown what the suspects are?' Well, that's one of the things we have also adopted the new KUHAP, right," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 11.
Asep explained that the new KUHAP focuses on the aspect of human rights protection, including for suspects in alleged cases of corruption.
"There is a presumption of innocence that protects from parties. So, of course, we have also followed that, like that," he explained.
He made the statement when announcing the suspects from the hand-in-hand operation (OTT) in the field of taxation, namely the alleged bribery case related to tax examinations in the environment of the North Jakarta Sub-Tax Office of the Directorate General of Taxes of the Ministry of Finance for the period 2021-2026.
Previously, the KUHAP Law was signed by Prabowo Subianto as the President of the Republic of Indonesia, and promulgated by Prasetyo Hadi as the Minister of State Secretary, namely on December 17, 2025.
Based on Article 369 of the KUHP, the regulation is valid starting January 2, 2026.
