Houses and Confectionery Buildings in Tambora Burn, Losses Reach IDR1.7 Billion

JAKARTA - A fire hit a densely populated settlement in Jembatan Besi Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta, Sunday morning, January 11. This event burned down 14 houses and one confectionery building, with a total loss estimated at Rp. 1.7 billion.

The fire occurred on Jalan Duri Bangkit, RT 008/RW 09. The fire first appeared at around 04.24 WIB and was only declared completely extinguished at 09.03 WIB after the cooling process was carried out by firefighters.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, said the fire had an impact on dozens of heads of households living at the scene.

"The impact of the fire includes 14 houses and one confectionery building, with a total of 37 families or about 150 people affected," Isnawa said in a statement, Sunday, January 11.

Isnawa explained, based on the interim report, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.

Regarding the chronology, Isnawa said that the residents first knew that the fire had grown on the second floor of one of the houses. Residents tried to put out the fire independently before asking for help from officers.

"According to residents, the fire had spread to the second floor of the house. Residents rushed to put out the fire using makeshift tools, but the fire quickly spread and residents asked for help from the nearest fire post," explained Isnawa.

The extinguishing process began at around 04.28 WIB, followed by cooling from 06.45 WIB until the condition was declared safe. BPBD DKI Jakarta suspects that the fire was triggered by an electrical fault.

As a result of this incident, a number of residents were forced to evacuate to the Nuurul Yaqien Mosque which is not far from the location of the fire. BPBD DKI Jakarta has also coordinated with a number of related SKPD for post-fire follow-up handling.

"The blackout has been completed and we are coordinating with the relevant SKPD to handle the impact of the fire," said Isnawa.
