JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said a number of atmospheric dynamics could cause significant weather potential in Indonesia, so it is necessary to increase preparedness for heavy to very heavy rain in a number of areas.

BMKG weather practitioner Masayu said in a statement quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 11, the areas include Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.

He explained that for the western part of Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware that there is the potential for lightning in Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Samarinda.

"Meanwhile, moderate rain potential is in Serang, there is also the potential for light rain in most of Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan," he said.

Then, the potential for cloudy and thick clouds is found in Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, and Pontianak. For eastern Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for moderate rain in Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Mamuju, and Merauke.

There is also the potential for light rain in Denpasar, Palu, Kendari, Ternate, Nabire, and Jayawijaya. Potential thick clouds in Manado, Gorontalo, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura.
