Makassar Traders are disciplined at the beginning of the year.
MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Government through the Panakkukang District together with related elements carried out a crackdown on illegal buildings of the Five-Foot Pedagang (PKL) who for years have caused congestion in the Jalan Saripa Raya area, Makassar, Saturday.
The traffic jam for years has often been a complaint from road users because the narrowing of the road due to illegal buildings and parking vehicles on the shoulder of the road makes this section often jammed, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
Camat Panakkukang Muhammad Ari Fadli said the order was carried out by BKO personnel of the Panakkukang District Satpol PP, who collaborated with the Karampuang Village Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) as well as local RT and RW elements.
"The crackdown on street vendors on Jalan Saripa Raya was carried out to enforce the rules in accordance with the applicable regulations and at the direction of the Mayor of Makassar. The activity was carried out in collaboration with all elements, from sub-districts, villages, to RT/RW," said Ari Fadli.
The crackdown was carried out as an effort to enforce Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 7 of 2021 concerning Public Order and Community Peace, as well as following up on the instructions of the Mayor of Makassar, regarding illegal buildings during the rakor a few days ago.
This crackdown is not merely a repressive action, but part of the government's long-term efforts to create an orderly, safe, and comfortable urban space for all road users.
Ari Fadli explained that the existence of PKL stalls at the location had been going on for quite some time, even years.
It is recorded that around 20 stalls were disciplined because they stood on the body and shoulders of the road, so it greatly disrupted the flow of traffic.
"These stalls have been around for a long time and they really interfere with traffic flow, especially during rush hours, both during office hours and during office hours. This condition often triggers traffic jams," he explained.
The direction of the Makassar City Government leadership is the main basis for the implementation of the order, which is carried out persuasively and humanistically, by prioritizing dialogue and social approaches to traders.
Even though the crackdown was carried out, Ari Fadli emphasized that the entire process was carried out safely and conducive. There was no rejection or commotion from the traders, because the approach taken was persuasive and humanistic.
"Alhamdulillah, there were no ripples during the crackdown. The street vendors understand and understand that this is the enforcement of rules that apply in the Makassar City Government," he said.
With the ongoing arrangement, the Makassar City Government hopes that Jalan Saripa can return to functioning optimally as a transportation route, as well as reflecting the face of a city that is orderly, beautiful, and in the interest of the common good.
