Accident in West Bangka, One Victim Dies
West Bangka Police, Bangka Belitung Islands Police said that a traffic accident occurred on the Mentok-Pangkalpinang national road, specifically in Terentang Village, which resulted in one person's death.
"The accident occurred at around 12.30 WIB involving a truck carrying palm oil and one passenger car coming from the opposite direction. As a result of the incident, one passenger died at the scene, while several other victims were seriously and lightly injured," said Head of Public Relations Section of West Bangka Police, Iptu Yos Sudarso, as reported by ANTARA.
After receiving information about the incident, West Bangka Police personnel together with the Traffic Unit immediately went to the scene, then secured the crime scene, evacuated the victims, and arranged traffic flow considering that the location of the incident was on a national road with a fairly dense volume of vehicles.
The rapid presence of personnel in the field is part of the commitment of the National Police in providing services and protection to the community.
"We are also coordinating with the health centers and hospitals for the medical treatment of the victims," he said.
Based on initial information on the ground, the accident began when a passenger car traveling from Pangkalpinang to Mentok tried to overtake the vehicle in front of it. However, from the opposite direction, a truck was traveling so that the collision could not be avoided.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the passenger car suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving intensive care at the hospital. Meanwhile, the truck driver suffered minor injuries. One of the passengers of the passenger car was reported to have died at the scene of the accident due to severe head injuries.
The police have also conducted data collection on the victim's identity and witnesses, as well as coordination with the health sector for further handling. Currently, the accident case is still being handled by the Gakkum Unit of the West Bangka Police Traffic Unit for further investigation.
The victim who died was identified as MN (32), who according to information was also the Director of Garuda TV. MN (passenger of a gray Nissan Serena B2477WBD car) died at the scene due to severe head injuries and serious injuries to other parts of the body.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan Serena with the initials Z suffered a head injury and lost consciousness, while the truck driver (BN8879RP) with the initials Is suffered a sprain in his right ankle.
This accident was a deep sorrow, especially with the death of a public figure from the world of local television media. Further investigation by the West Bangka Police continues to be carried out to investigate the exact cause of this accident.
The West Bangka Police appealed to all road users to always prioritize safety when driving, obey traffic signs, and not force themselves when overtaking other vehicles, especially on national roads.
