Cuban Foreign Minister Accuses US of Aggression, Promises Continued Resistance

JAKARTA - Cuban Foreign Minister (Menlu) Bruno Rodriguez accused the United States (US) of relying on power and aggression for more than six decades and confirmed that his country would continue to defend its sovereignty from Washington's pressure.

Rodriguez said through the X social media platform, Washington had "used force and aggression against Cuba for 67 years," adding that the US was trying to "impose its will on the rights of sovereign states."

He described the US strength as relying on "a very large military force and its economic scale," as well as what he called "extensive experience in aggression and crime."

On the other hand, Rodriguez emphasized that on the Cuban side there was a different foundation. According to him, "on our side there is common sense, international law, and the patriotic spirit of the entire people."

He emphasized that the Cuban people would not give up their sovereignty. "We, the Cuban people, are not ready to sell our country or surrender to threats and blackmail," he said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, January 10.

Rodriguez also said Havana would not give up its "inalienable prerogatives," which it used to build "its own future, living in peace with the rest of the world."

"We will defend Cuba," Rodriguez said, adding that the commitment was firm, clear, and proven.

On January 5, the Cuban Foreign Minister called on the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to jointly defend the independence and sovereignty of the region from the threats posed by the recent US military intervention in Venezuela.

US President Donald Trump previously named Cuba as one of the possible targets of his administration's policies. On January 7, Trump said the Caribbean country was "ready to fall."
