Jambi Governor Urges Residents on the Banks of the Wasada River to be Alert for Flooding

KOTA JAMBI - Jambi Governor Al Haris appealed to residents living along the riverbanks to be aware of river overflows while reviewing the "Gebyar Pasar Tani" in Jambi, Saturday (10/1/2026). He asked to be aware of the river to be aware of the threat of flooding of the Batanghari River due to high rainfall in the past week.

"I have appealed to all parties involved, starting from the BPBD, volunteer teams, all must be ready to anticipate river overflows due to high rainfall intensity," he said in Jambi, Saturday.

He asked the public to remain vigilant against the threat of hydrometeorological disasters in Jambi Province. Moreover, a number of rivers in Jambi have experienced an increase in water levels, such as the Batang Tebo and Batang Merangin rivers and coastal areas.

As many as two rivers flow into the Batanghari River and flow into Tanjung Jabung Timur. For this reason, residents living along the Batanghari River are asked to increase their vigilance, given the potential for open flooding.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Amri Juhardy, explained that a number of local areas were surrounded by tidal floods (rob).

The incident caused residential areas on the coast to be submerged in water with an average height of 30 to 50 centimeters (cm). In fact, as a result of this incident, one empty house belonging to residents of Kuala Simbur Village, East Muara Sabak District was carried away by the strong flow of seawater that overflowed to the coast.

He said the high water was caused by high tides and high rainfall in the last three days.

Based on the BMKG's forecast, heavy rainfall and high waves accompanied by strong winds are still potentially occurring in East Tanjung Jabung Regency. For this reason, the local government gives an appeal to fishermen to remain vigilant.

"My fishermen ask to read the weather forecast before going to sea, it is important for their safety (fishermen), we are trying to strengthen communication according to the regent's instructions," said Amri.
