Wacana Head of Region Elected by DPRD to be Discussed by PDIP During National Congress
JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDIP DPP, Ganjar Pranowo, said a number of discussions would be carried out in the I PDIP National Working Meeting (Rakernas) which was held for three days. Among them are related to the quality of democracy to the latest issues related to the regional head election (pilkada).
"Regarding whether the local elections are chosen in the region, in the DPRD I mean or then directly chosen by the community, this will be discussed later," Ganjar told reporters at the Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta, Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Meanwhile, regarding democracy, Ganjar said this needed to be fought for considering that many felt they were no longer free to speak.
"I think we need to fight for it. Don't let our democratic values go down, it should be that the quality of democracy is rising. We will talk about it," he said.
"Today many people complain, we listen to the voices of the people, they complain 'why I don't feel free to speak', the media can no longer speak freely," said the former Governor of Central Java.
Furthermore, foreign policy issues will also be discussed by PDIP. According to Ganjar, the changing geopolitical conditions will be a concern.
The last issue that will be in the spotlight in the I PDIP National Conference is the environment.
"Because this is related to disasters. That is the order of the Chairperson General several times conveyed to the three pillars of the party, whether in the structural, then the executive and legislative to control in this area."
"Yes, the spatial layout, yes, the environment. If it has already happened, what needs to be done. If not, how to prevent it. I think those are the agendas we will discuss," said Ganjar.
As previously reported, PDIP held a 53rd anniversary celebration which was followed by a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) at the Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, Jakarta, on January 10-12, 2026. This activity was attended by central and regional managers, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, DPRD, to regional heads.
The I PDIP National Congress will take the theme of Satyam Eva Jayate with 'That's Where I Stand for Eternity' as a sub-theme.
Satyam Eva Jayate is Sanskrit which means 'Truth will prevail'.
