RI-Turkey Strengthen Cooperation in the Economic Sector to Electric Vehicles
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Turkey in various fields, ranging from economy and defense to multilateral coordination and the development of electric vehicles (EV).
After the Joint Meeting of the Indonesian and Turkish Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense (2+2 Dialogue) in Ankara, Friday (9/1) local time, Sugiono said the two countries agreed to immediately complete an agreement to strengthen bilateral economic partnerships.
"We agree on the importance of immediately concluding a limited preferential agreement as a starting point for a comprehensive strategic economic partnership that opens up economic potential and benefits for the people of both countries," he said, quoting Antara.
He also conveyed a joint commitment to increase cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy, including electric vehicles, which includes the development of an EV battery production ecosystem, the petrochemical industry, as well as cooperation in mining and energy.
In addition, Sugiono emphasized the determination of Indonesia and Turkey to strengthen defense cooperation to achieve the independence of the defense industry of each country.
During the 2+2 Dialogue, the Indonesian and Turkish delegations also exchanged views on regional and global dynamics, including developments at the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and ASEAN.
Both countries agreed to continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people and increase joint efforts to realize Palestinian independence.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Turkey and Indonesia agreed to increase trade and strengthen cooperation in the energy and food sectors, while identifying other sectors that could be developed.
Fidan added that Turkey has a holistic vision to strengthen engagement with the Asia Pacific region and views Indonesia as a key partner in this effort.
The Indonesia-Turkey 2+2 Dialogue was also attended by the Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and the Turkish Minister of Defense Yaşar Güler and delegations from both countries, which discussed strengthening strategic cooperation in the fields of security, trade, economy, development, and energy.
