Bulog Director General Promotes One Price Rice from Sabang to Merauke After Food Self-sufficiency

JAKARTA - Perum Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani encourages a policy of one rice price from Sabang to Merauke after Indonesia officially achieved food self-sufficiency in rice throughout 2025.

Rizal emphasized that Bulog played an active role in safeguarding national food self-sufficiency, in line with Indonesia's success in not importing rice from January to December 2025.

"From Sabang to Merauke, God willing, Bulog will aspire to level the price of SPHP rice (Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices) from Sabang to Merauke, the price is one price," said Rizal in a press conference regarding the latest developments in handling disasters in the Sumatra region held at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Building, Jakarta, Friday, January 9, reported by ANTARA.

He said the success of the self-sufficiency of rice had been declared directly by President Prabowo Subianto in Karawang, West Java on Wednesday (7/1) as an important milestone for national food independence from the production of domestic farmers.

The peak of food self-sufficiency is marked by Bulog rice stocks reaching 4.5 million tons in July 2025, reflecting the strength of domestic production and the effectiveness of national reserve management.

Entering January 2026, Bulog's rice stock was recorded at 3.35 million tons which was considered safe to maintain the stability of the supply and price of national rice.

In the future, Bulog targets the absorption of farmer rice to reach 4 million tons as a strategic step to strengthen reserves, improve farmers' welfare, and open export opportunities.

In addition to exports, Bulog also prepares a policy of price equalization through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization program so that rice prices are affordable evenly throughout the region.

The concept of rice at one price from Sabang to Merauke is expected to emulate the success of the national energy policy, so that there is no more disparity in prices between regions.

"Like Pertamina. Pertamina is also from Sabang to Merauke at one price. Bulog also has one rice from Sabang to Merauke at one price," said Rizal.

Bulog hopes for the support of the entire community so that the one-price policy becomes a national legacy, as well as strengthening Bulog's role as a buffer for Indonesian food stability.

Meanwhile, SPHP rice has been sold at the highest retail price (HET), namely Rp12,500 per kilogram for zone 1 (Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, NTB, Sulawesi); Rp13,100 per kilogram for zone 2 (Sumatra other than Lampung and Sumsel, NTT, Kalimantan); and Rp13,500 per kilogram for zone 3 (Maluku, Papua).
