Pursuing the target of IDR 2,175 trillion in investment, BKPM relies on the World Economic Forum
JAKARTA - Indonesia will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Indonesia's participation in the WEF has a role in increasing foreign investment (FDI) or foreign direct investment (FDI).
Deputy for Investment Promotion of the Ministry of Investment and Industrialization/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Nurul Ichwan, said that WEF 2026 will be held from January 19 to 23 and will be attended by 3,000 participants from both global companies and heads of state.
Nurul said that the event would be used to build a good image of the country. With the aim of showing Indonesia's capabilities as a destination for investment.
"Indonesia is a big country with extraordinary wealth, but also has extraordinary stability. That's what they are always looking for," said Nurul in a media briefing at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, Friday, January 9.
Nurul emphasized that Indonesia's active participation in the WEF has contributed to increasing FDI. Although it is not possible to detail the exact value, Indonesia's presence in Davos is one of the levers for achieving this year's investment target of Rp. 2,175 trillion.
"In 2026, we have been given a target of Rp. 2,100 trillion for investment realization. And it starts with this Davos activity," he said.
Nurul also said that President Prabowo Subianto was planned to attend the WEF 2026, but until now he is still waiting for confirmation. Meanwhile, the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM and Head of BPI Danantara, Rosan Roeslani will be one of the speakers at the WEF.
"Around 30, yes, the heads of state were also invited. But we don't know who has confirmed it. In fact, even our president has received an invitation. This means that WEF sees it as important to be able to present the leadership of this Indonesian state to be able to convey what Indonesia's vision is as part of the global economy in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of KADIN for International Relations, Bernardino Vega, revealed that the government and business actors who participated would voice the same issue.
Furthermore, Dino said, one of the things that the Indonesian government would voice is the issue of energy transition, with the hope of being a promotion to attract foreign investors.
"It is important that the world knows what the national narrative is, to green investment, energy transition, carbon sequestration, and green EV development, and so on. So this must be given one emphasis, one focus," he said.
