NASA Takes Squid Into Space With SpaceX Rocket

JAKARTA - The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will again supply SpaceX rockets on June 3 to be sent to the International Space Station (ISS). Later, the cargo will contain one of NASA's experiments, namely a small squid.

In addition to delivering the supplies astronauts need to survive in space, the cargo also carries scientific experiments designed for outer space.

Quoting Slashgear, Saturday, May 29, NASA carried a number of squids on its upcoming 22nd cargo. By studying the effects of spaceflight on microbial interactions. NASA said it could develop protective measures to help ensure the long-term health of astronauts as they head deeper into space.

One such space study is Understanding of Microgravity on Animal-Microbe Interactions (UMAMI). It is known, microbes play an important role in life, including helping humans stay healthy.

In addition, NASA wanted to understand whether there would be any effect if spaceflight contained these beneficial microbes. Then, how flight can affect their role in helping to sustain life.

Furthermore, the research could also shed light on how interactions between microbes and animals could help promote and protect such relationships on Earth.

The re-supply process will include other scientific experiments, including water bears, a portable ultrasonic device called Butterfly IQ Ultrasound, Pilote ESA, a kidney cell model to evaluate kidney stone formation in space, research involving cotton, and much more.
