Guardiola: Manchester City Beat Many Clubs to Sign Antoine Semenyo
JAKARTA - Pep Guardiola revealed that Manchester City beat the competition from many clubs to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
The Citizens completed a deal worth 64 million pounds (about Rp1.4 trillion) for the winger on Friday, January 9, 2026.
The 26-year-old will be included in the squad for the FA Cup Third Round match against Exeter City on Saturday, January 10, 2026, WIB evening.
He could make his debut in the English League against Manchester United next weekend. Manchester United is one of the clubs also interested in Semenyo along with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
"Many clubs wanted him. He decided to join us. So, all I can say is thank you to him."
"We are very happy. (It's been) a long time we've been following him. Everyone knows his quality. He was amazing at Bournemouth and he can play on both sides, right and left."
"He can also play as a striker with his speed. He knows the English League," said Guardiola.
In addition to Semenyo, Manchester City is also linked with the transfer of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in January 2026.
The England international is out of contract at Crystal Palace in the summer and Manchester City are short of centre-backs following injuries to Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones.
Guehi, who came close to moving to Liverpool in the summer, has been linked with a number of clubs.
However, Guardiola refused to comment on whether Semenyo would be followed by other players before the transfer deadline.
"I don't know, I can't answer that question," he said.
