Morrissey Cancels and Delays More Than 200 Shows Since 2012
JAKARTA - Morrissey is back in the spotlight not because of his latest music release, but because of his concert track record full of uncertainty.
The former Smiths vocalist has canceled and postponed more than 200 of his performances since 2012.
This cancellation trend seems to be part of his stage identity which often makes his fans have to bite their fingers in the last minutes.
Recently, the British singer canceled a pair of concerts in California on the grounds of "a bad reaction to prescription drugs". This incident adds to the long list of unique and varied reasons that Morrissey has ever made.
In November, the 66-year-old singer quietly canceled a South American tour due to "extreme exhaustion", just days after two concerts in Mexico were also canceled for similar reasons.
Public speculation even heated up when Morrissey canceled two concerts in Turkey in December, which some fans attributed to his political stance in support of Israel.
This phenomenon has not only happened recently. Last summer, he canceled his appearance in Stockholm because he felt that he and the accompanying band were tired of traveling beyond the limits of belief and felt that he was not getting support from the music industry.
Other medical reasons that have emerged include a severe sinus attack to a toxic food poisoning incident caused by a penne pasta and tomato dish.
In fact, security reasons such as "a real threat" to his life, other health problems, to logistical constraints have been an excuse for Morrissey's absence on stage.
Data collected by Consequence through Morrissey-Solo's fan site shows quite a shocking statistic. Since 2012, Morrissey has actually announced as many as 639 show schedules.
However, of the total, he was only recorded to have performed in 449 concerts, which means his concert completion rate is only 70 percent.
The year 2013 was the darkest period, where he only played 16 out of 64 planned schedules. This negative trend continued until 2025, where he only completed 36 out of 68 concert schedules.
Despite his controversial reputation regarding stage commitments, Morrissey is still moving forward with his 2026 agenda, which is scheduled to begin in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, January 10.
He has also announced the only UK concert date of the year, which will be held at The O2, London, on February 28.
