OJK Says There is No Increase in Fraud Reports in the Christmas-New Year Period
JAKARTA - The Chief Executive of the Financial Services, Education, and Consumer Protection Conduct Supervisory Authority of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi said there was no increase in fraud reports during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 period.
Overall, he said the fraud report in the last Christmas and New Year period was actually lower than what was reported by the community in the same time frame in 2024.
"There was no increase in fraud reports during this Nataru period (compared to 2024), especially in the last week, from December 24 to 31, 2025," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 9.
Based on OJK data, there were 373,129 fraud reports as of November 30, 2025, and increased to 411 thousand as of December 23, 2025. This means that there are an additional 37,900 reports with an average of 1,600 reports per day.
As of December 31, 2025, a total of 418,462 reports, which means an increase of around 7,407 reports or an average of 1,900 reports per day during the period from 24 to 31 last month.
During this period, he said the highest fraud method was regarding online shopping transactions in line with the proliferation of advertisements or ticket discounts, then fakecall, to fraud via SMS.
"One example is the electronic fine which is a lot through SMS, even we ourselves also receive a lot of fraudulent SMS which I am sure you also have many friends who may have received. It is also a new mode that we see very rampant at the end of last year," said Friderica, who is usually called Kiki.
