Six Districts in Bengkayang, West Kalimantan Submerged by Flooding
BENGKAYANG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan, recorded that floods hit six sub-districts in the area due to high rainfall intensity.
The flood caused disruption of residents' activities, transportation access was cut off, and learning activities were temporarily stopped.
Head of the Bengkayang Regency BPBD Dwi Bertha said the flood occurred almost simultaneously in several sub-districts with different levels of flooding. Some areas were flooded in residential areas, while in other areas the water flooded roads and public facilities.
"Based on the interim report, there are six sub-districts that are affected by flooding and we are still monitoring the development," said Dwi Bertha as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 9.
The six affected sub-districts include Teriak, Sungai Betung, Suti Semarang, Seluas, Sanggau Ledo, and Tujuh Belas sub-districts. BPBD is still conducting follow-up data collection to determine the number of affected residents and the condition of infrastructure in each sub-district.
In several sub-districts, flooding caused community activities to temporarily stop.
Flood puddles on main roads hinder the mobility of residents, while in a number of areas school and economic activities cannot run normally.
"We will continue to coordinate with the sub-district and village governments to monitor the field conditions and prepare initial handling steps if there is an increase in water discharge. Personnel and equipment are also on alert to anticipate subsequent flooding," he said.
