Flood Disrupts Transportation Access in Lubuk Besar Bangka Tengah
BANGKA TENGAH - Flooding submerged the road section of Lubuk Lingkuk Village, Lubuk Besar District, Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, due to the high intensity of rain that hit the area over the past two days.
The Regent of Central Bangka, Algafry Rahman, directly reviewed the flood location accompanied by the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Bangka and the disaster response team.
"The current weather conditions are still extreme, we urge the public to remain vigilant and careful," said Algafry Rahman when reviewing the flood location, reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 9.
The flooding occurred because the drainage system was unable to accommodate the increasing rainfall, so the water overflowed into the road and residents' settlements. The water level was reported to be up to the chest of an adult.
As a result of the incident, transportation access from Lubuk Lingkuk Village to the capital of Lubuk Besar District was completely paralyzed. Both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles cannot pass through the flood site.
In addition to soaking the main road, the flood also inundated dozens of residents' houses and until the afternoon, heavy rain was still pouring down on the local area, so that the water level had not shown signs of receding.
Algafry asked the Bangka Tengah BPBD to carry out rapid handling of affected residents, including data collection on damage and urgent community needs.
"If the condition of the house is no longer possible to be occupied, our residents ask to immediately evacuate to a safer place," he said.
In addition to Lubuk Lingkuk Village, flooding also occurred in the Nibung Bridge area which is a national road connecting Central Bangka Regency and South Bangka Regency.
However, the water level at the location is still relatively low and vehicles can still pass through with caution.
BPBD Bangka Tengah continues to be on standby and monitoring weather developments and potential flooding in a number of vulnerable areas.
The local government also appealed to the public to immediately report if there were emergency conditions due to extreme weather.
