30,000 hectares of rice fields damaged by flash floods, scattered throughout Aceh
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has identified around 30,000 hectares of fish farming ponds in Aceh that were damaged by flash floods in late November 2025.
The level of damage varies, ranging from mild to very severe, and affects more than 30,000 cultivators.
Coordinating Minister for Food and Agriculture Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas said that damage to fish ponds not only occurred in one area, but was almost evenly distributed throughout Aceh.
"Not only in Pidie Jaya, it is reported that throughout Aceh there are around 30,000 hectares," said Zulhas in an official statement released by the KKP, Friday, January 9.
In addition to reviewing Pidie Jaya, Zulhas together with the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono also conducted an inspection at the location of the flooded fishponds in Bireuen Regency and North Aceh.
Trenggono explained that the flooded fish farms were spread across 16 districts/cities in Aceh.
North Aceh Regency is the most affected area with an area of more than 10,000 hectares, followed by Bireuen Regency with around 4,900 hectares and Aceh Tamiang with around 3,400 hectares.
Damaged ponds are located in the mainland and coastal areas with developed commodities, such as shrimp, bandeng, snapper, grouper, catfish, tilapia, mas and patin.
"We have identified it. The affected ponds that are very damaged are around 300 hectares, the rest is dominated by mild to severe damage," said Trenggono.
To note, the heavy flooding accompanied by landslides previously hit almost all areas of Aceh.
As a result, a number of cultivation ponds suffered severe damage, even some were flattened by the flood-borne mud.
