OpenAI Acquires Convogo Employees to Strengthen AI Ecosystem

JAKARTA - OpenAI announced the ninth acquisition it has made in the past year. The company acquired the team behind Convogo, a software platform that can automate and improve leadership assessments.

An OpenAI spokesperson said that they did not acquire Convogo's intellectual property or technology. They acquired the company through an acqui-hire method or recruited the entire team of Convogo experts, including its founders.

The three founders who are rumored to join the OpenAI project are Matt Cooper, Evan Cater, and Mike Gillett. With this acquisition, Convogo will gradually stop its software and focus on OpenAI's development projects.

In an official email released by the Convogo team, they stated that there were major challenges in bridging the gap between each of their latest AI model releases in real results. To overcome this challenge, they also decided to join OpenAI.

"We believe that the key to bridging that gap lies in carefully designed and targeted experiences," the founders of Convogo wrote in a statement, launching TechCrunch on Friday, January 9.

This is not the first time OpenAI has made a company acquisition to recruit employees within it. This step is considered more efficient than finding workers with untapped talent. Several acquisitions led to the closure of the company's original products, while others were integrated into the OpenAI ecosystem.

For example, like the AI interface for Mac, a product from Sky, which is included in the OpenAI ecosystem. Meanwhile, other companies, such as Roi, Context.ai, and Crossing Minds, were forced to completely close their products after their internal teams joined OpenAI.
