Xiaomi Reveals 2026 Strategy: Focus on Self-Made Chips and Operating System Control

JAKARTA - Xiaomi has outlined the company's long-term strategy until 2026 by focusing on the development of its own chips and operating systems (OS). The plan was presented at the company's internal technology awards event, which highlighted Xiaomi's innovation achievements over the past year.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun emphasized that chips, operating systems, and artificial intelligence are the main foundations of Xiaomi's future competitiveness. According to him, independence in the development of software and hardware is the key to the company's long-term ecosystem growth, both in the smartphone sector and smart home devices.

During the event, Xiaomi revealed that throughout the internal assessment period, there were 154 project submissions from ten departments. A total of 66 projects made it to the final assessment stage, covering various fields such as chip design, imaging systems, AI platforms, to the development of advanced materials. Xiaomi said the number and quality of projects submitted set a record high in the company's internal history.

One of the most prominent projects is XRING 01, a flagship-class mobile chip developed entirely by Xiaomi. The company states that XRING 01 makes Xiaomi the first company in mainland China to successfully introduce a 3 nanometer-class mobile chip. Lei Jun called this project an important milestone and hopes that similar innovations can continue to be developed by 2026.

Lei Jun also revealed Xiaomi's target to have chips and operating systems that are fully developed independently before the end of this year. In addition, the company plans to implement a large-scale artificial intelligence model into various devices.

In terms of investment, Xiaomi has allocated around 21 billion US dollars for core research. Going forward, the company plans to increase investment to around 200 billion yuan or around 28 billion US dollars in the next five years to strengthen the integrated development of chips, OS, and AI.
