Rejecting the Stigma of the Level of the Mentok Prison Clinic, the National Standard and Accept BPJS Patients

JAKARTA - The public's view of health facilities behind bars, which is synonymous with the impression of being closed and the service is as it is, has now officially been broken. The Mentok Class IIB Prison, West Bangka, made a major breakthrough by opening access to the Armelia Primary Clinic for the general public and BPJS Health participants.

This step marks a new phase in the integration of public health services, where the detention facility not only serves inmates, but also contributes to the national health system in the Bangka Belitung Islands region.

National Standards Behind Bars

Head of the Mentok Class IIB Prison, Andri Ferly, emphasized that this change was driven by the success of the clinic in achieving national standard accreditation from the Ministry of Health.

"The old paradigm that views health services behind bars is adequate, now broken. The Armelia Pratama Clinic is now national standard and on par with general health facilities," said Andri Ferly as quoted by ANTARA.

The achievement of this accreditation is not merely a formal recognition on paper, but a guarantee that operational procedures (SOP), the quality of medical personnel, and the facilities and infrastructure within the prison have met the strict regulations applicable to all clinics in Indonesia.

Puskesmas Queue Solution

The presence of this public open detention clinic was welcomed by the local government. The Head of the West Bangka Health Office, Muhammad Sapi'i Rangkuti, said that the Mentok Detention Clinic was a strategic solution to reduce the workload of the Mentok Health Center, which has been overloaded (overload) serving BPJS participants.

Interestingly, this transformation process is very fast. In just three months, the prison team managed to improve quality management to achieve the accreditation predicate - making it the first clinic in the prison / prison environment in Bangka Belitung that has reached that standard.

Service for All: WBP to the General Public

With its new status, the Pratama Armelia Clinic now serves a wider spectrum of patients, including:

Inmates: As a basic right during the period of detention.

WBP family and Rutan Employees: Provide a sense of security for the internal prison.

General Public and BPJS Participants: Helping to equalize access to health around the Mentok area.

Humanitarian and Risk Mitigation Mission

In addition to the general service function, clinics in the prison environment have a complex responsibility, namely early detection and mitigation of health risks in a densely populated residential environment. With qualified medical standards, the risk of disease transmission within the prison can be suppressed as much as possible.

The Health Office also promised to continue to provide assistance so that the quality of service is maintained with the 4S principle: Friendly, Smile, Salam, and Courtesy.

"We want to prove that the detention center is no longer a gloomy place. The presence of this clinic is proof that the medical standards here are equivalent to public health facilities out there," concluded Andri Ferly.
