Minister of Culture and Tourism encourages the development of people's cinemas in the district, Watch for only Rp. 10 thousand
JAKARTA - The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, opened the opportunity for cooperation to develop People's Cinema (BIOSRA) to the sub-district level. This idea was put forward during an audience with the Indonesian Film Association (PERFIKI) at the Ministry of Culture Building, Thursday, January 8.
Y. Endiarto as Chairman of PERFIKI explained, BIOSRA was designed as a permanent cinema in every sub-district with tickets around Rp. 10,000. He emphasized that even though the price is cheap, this cinema will still be up to date.
"This is not a screen. BIOSRA is showing the latest film, presenting the fairness of entertainment as well as a new economy in the district," he said.
The concept of BIOSRA is a two-story building measuring 10x30 meters. The upper floor is for a cinema and a multifunction hall, the lower floor for local non-franchise MSMEs. PERFIKI plays the role of film management, while the assets are owned by local entrepreneurs. If there is no investor, PERFIKI is ready to take an initial role with the support of the central government.
PERFIKI also prepares a pilot project in Cempaka District, Purwakarta Regency, which is targeted to run after this year's Lebaran. The pilot project is expected to become a model for the development of BIOSRA at the district level.
Apart from film screenings, BIOSRA is designed as a talent incubator through regional film auditions to produce local actors, crew, and production houses.
Responding to the exposure, Fadli Zon considered BIOSRA relevant for equitable access. "The more screens, the better. Many districts and cities do not yet have cinemas," he said. He emphasized the importance of an integrated concept, especially the tiered distribution of films from the center and province to the region, which will be studied together with the Directorate of Film, Music, and Art.
The discussion also touched on the utilization of regional assets that have not been optimally utilized to support BIOSRA. This collaboration is considered to have the potential to drive the local economy while strengthening the regional film ecosystem.
