Viral Flash Of Light On Merapi Is Called Meteor Recorded By CCTV, This Said BPPTKG
JAKARTA - The world of cyberspace was made excited by a photo of a flash of light that was said to be a meteor. The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) uploaded a CCTV video recording.
"In connection with the circulation of this news, we can say that the CCTV camera located in Deles (east side of Mount Merapi) recorded a flash of light on May 27, 2021 at 23.08.10 WIB," said BPPTKG's statement via the bpptkg Instagram account, Friday, 28 May.
"There was no significant signal from the seismic data and no sound or visible flash of light was reported from the Mount Merapi monitoring posts," continued BPPTKG.
BPPTKG-PVMBG-Geological Agency has a task, one of which is to mitigate Mount Merapi. However, the BPPTKG does not have the duty to observe celestial bodies.
"So we cannot confirm what objects are seen in the picture," continued the BPPTKG.
Currently the volcanic activity of Mount Merapi is still quite high, namely in the form of effusive eruption activity which is characterized by the growth activity of lava domes, avalanches, and hot clouds of avalanches.
Most recently, hot clouds of Merapi avalanches occurred at 19.23 WIB. Recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of 60 mm and a duration of 145 seconds. The hot cloud slide distance is called the BPPTKG 2 km to the southwest.
