Manchester United Ask Fletcher to Hold Team Again in the FA Cup

JAKARTA - Darren Fletcher said he will be on the sidelines for the FA Cup match when Manchester United play Brighton on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who was coaching the club's under-18 team before taking over the interim manager's job, was in charge of a 2-2 draw against Burnley on Thursday, January 8, 2026, early morning WIB, after the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

The club has spoken to several candidates, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, about the possibility of becoming interim manager until the summer. A final decision has not been made and Fletcher will remain in the post for at least one more game.

"They have told me they want to lead the team for Sunday. There is a feeling that it (the new interim manager) may happen from Monday (January 12, 2026)."

"However, yes, I am assigned to lead the team on Sunday. So all my focus and energy are now on that," Fletcher said at a press conference at Turf Moor.

Meanwhile, Manchester United came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 thanks to two goals from Benjamin Sesko before being followed back.

"They put in a performance that should have won the game. We created a lot of chances, had 30 shots, a save on the line, a goal that was disallowed."

"If you look from that point of view, we should have won the game. It wasn't perfect, we started slowly."

"We scored two fantastic goals. There is still a lot to do, but I am very happy with their efforts," said Fletcher.
