Meeting with Legal Experts, the Committee III of the DPR Committee encourages the optimization of cultural reform in the body of the National Police

Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a public hearing (RDPU) with criminologist Adrianus Eliasta Sembiring Meliala and State Law Expert, Muhammad Rullyandi at the DPR, Jakarta, Thursday, January 8.

This meeting was held to filter the opinions of experts regarding the reform of the National Police, Prosecutor's Office, and Court.

In the conclusion of the meeting held in the middle of the DPR recess, Commission III of the DPR encouraged cultural reform in the Polri body to run optimally. Especially regarding the work culture so that the Polri is more responsive, professional and accountable.

"First, Commission III of the DPR through the Panja Reform of the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, and the Court of Justice confirmed that the position of the National Police remained under the President, as well as the mechanism for the appointment and dismissal of the National Police Chief by the President with the consent of the DPR RI has been in line with the reform mandate as stated in Article 7 Paragraph (2) and Paragraph (3) of TAP MPR Number VII/MPR/2000 and applicable laws and regulations," concluded the meeting chaired by the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman.

"Second, Commission III of the DPR through the Panja Reform of the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, and the Court of Justice encourages the optimization of the implementation of cultural reform in the body of the National Police, especially related to work culture, organization, and groups that support the creation of a responsive, professional and accountable National Police", he continued.

Even though it was held in the middle of the recess period, Habiburokhman emphasized that today's agenda was still valid because it had received permission from the leadership of the DPR RI.

"We convey that this agenda is held during the recess after receiving permission from the leadership of the DPR RI," he said.

Habiburokhman explained that this meeting was important as part of the contribution of the thoughts of Commission III of the DPR RI in encouraging reforms in the law enforcement sector, especially the police, prosecutor's office, and courts.

To note, Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives had previously held a meeting with the National Police, the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung), and the Supreme Court (MA) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 18.

"We have also held RDPU several times before, heard statements from experts, including also heard input and complaints from the public regarding police reform, prosecutors, and courts," he explained.

Therefore, in this agenda, Commission III of the DPR RI wants to deepen the discussion of police reform by listening to the views of experts.

"So we want to listen to opinions about this Polri reform," concluded Habiburokhman.
