Perdana, Indonesia will hold a 2+2 meeting with Turkey
JAKARTA - Indonesia will hold a 2+2 meeting (foreign ministers and defense ministers) with Turkey for the first time this week, adding to the list of countries that have 2+ mechanisms with Indonesia.
Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said that the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, is scheduled to visit Ankara and Istanbul today, to attend the 2+2 Indonesia meeting with Turkey, along with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, which will be held on January 9.
"This first 2+2 meeting is a follow-up to the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) between President Prabowo Subianto and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Bogor last year," Yvonne explained in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (8/1).
Yvonne explained that the main discussion at the meeting will include bilateral strategic cooperation in the fields of security, trade, economy, development and energy.
"This is the first meeting, which we will raise, including cooperation in the field of defense and defense industry, regional issues in the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia and the Pacific," said Yvonne.
"There will also be discussions on multilateral cooperation between the two countries, such as the G20, ASEAN, BRICS, and also discuss the situation in Palestine and Gaza," said the diplomat who served at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations in New York.
Explaining, Yvonne, before with Turkey, Indonesia had previously had a 2+2 meeting mechanism with Australia, Japan, China and France.
He added that Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie were scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to President Erdogan in Istanbul on January 10.
"At the meeting with the President of Turkey, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs will convey President Prabowo's invitation to President Erdogan to attend the D8 Summit which is scheduled to be held in April this year in Jakarta," he said.
