Toyota Announces New Electric SUV in India, Urban Cruiser EV to Launch Soon

JAKARTA - Toyota plans to expand its portfolio in the Indian automotive market, which this time will launch its latest electric car, which was revealed on the Instagram social media page @toyota.india.

From observation, Thursday, January 8, the electric car is rumored to be the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV or the twin of the Suzuki e-Vitara, which has already been present first.

"Something stinging is charging. Be prepared to experience a new level of performance power," said Toyota's tweet.

From the short video shared, the upcoming electric SUV is expected to be named Toyota Urban Cruiser EV and will be produced in India at Maruti Suzuki's plant in Gujarat. The model is also already available in Indonesia.

In terms of design, this car has a muscular front with high headlights, a firm hood line, large wheel arches, and a prominent body cladding. Aerodynamic elements such as air intakes in the front bumper are aimed at improving efficiency, while details such as the rear door handles attached to the C-pillar and the neatly integrated roof spoiler add to its visual appeal.

At the back, sleek LED taillights and a largely unpainted bumper give the SUV a tough but clean look.

In the interior, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to mimic the eVitara cabin layout, featuring a floating center console, a two-spoke steering wheel, and two digital screens for infotainment and instrumentation. Toyota will also likely offer a comprehensive suite of ADAS along with a variety of active and passive safety features, positioning this SUV competitively in the rapidly growing EV segment.

The powertrain options for Toyota's new electric SUV are expected to be identical to the eVitara. Buyers will likely get a choice between a 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack.
