1.659 Joint Personnel Secure Labor Demonstration in Jakarta Today
JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Metro Police (Jakpus) deployed a total of 1,659 joint personnel to provide services during a demonstration held by a number of workers and other community elements in the local area on Thursday, January 8.
"We are here to serve our brothers who express their opinions," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Reynold EP Hutagalung, quoted by Antara, Thursday morning.
He emphasized that the presence of the police was solely to serve the community and guarantee the constitutional rights of citizens to convey their aspirations peacefully.
According to him, the demonstration was carried out by a number of workers from the Confederation of Indonesian Workers and several mass elements in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta.
"So that the public presentation of opinions goes smoothly, orderly, and conducive," he said, all security personnel are not equipped with firearms and prioritize a humanistic and professional approach.
"Personnel are ordered to always prioritize a humanistic, persuasive, and professional attitude," said Reynold.
He also appealed to the speakers and participants in the action to remain orderly, not provoke other masses, not close public roads, and not commit acts of anarchy, such as burning used tires or damaging public facilities.
In addition, he emphasized that the mass action should not fight against officers and together maintain order, and reminded people who were around the Monas area not to be provoked.
For road users, the police advised that they should find alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion during the demonstration.
"Traffic arrangements are situational and will be adjusted to the escalation of the number of masses in the field. We ask for the cooperation of all parties so that activities run safely, orderly, and conducive," said Reynold.
