The Tangerang City Government extends the waste emergency status until January 19, 2026

TANGERANG SOUTH - The South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) officially extended the emergency waste status for two weeks, starting from January 6 to 19, 2026. This step was taken to optimize the handling of piles of garbage that are still found in a number of city areas.

The Secretary of the South Tangerang BPBD, Essa Nugraha, said that the extension of the emergency status was focused on accelerating cleaning, transporting garbage, and enforcing community discipline in disposing of garbage in its place.

"The extension period is 19 days, from Tuesday, January 6 to Monday, January 19. During the extension period, the focus is on optimizing the cleaning and transportation of garbage and optimizing the enforcement of garbage disposal behavior," said Essa, Wednesday, January 7.

Essa emphasized that during this emergency period, the task force team (satgas) would work more intensively to transport the garbage that had accumulated at various points, especially in the areas that had been the most severely affected previously.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) of the City of Tangerang, Tubagus Asep Nurdin, said that the extension of the emergency waste status was the result of the first phase evaluation which ended on Monday (5/1/2026).

"The South Tangerang City Government will extend the emergency response status for waste management," he said.

He said that the evaluation found that there was still a buildup of garbage in several locations so that extra handling was needed so that transportation could run optimally. The city government hopes that the extension of the emergency status can restore the overall cleanliness of the city and prevent a buildup later.

"Hopefully with the extension of this emergency status, South Tangerang can be conducive with the same pile in several areas," he concluded.
