Pertamina Prepares Anticipation of a Surge in Fuel Consumption Ahead of Ramadan-Idulfitri 2026

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has begun anticipating the potential increase in the need and consumption of fuel oil (BBM) ahead of the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period, which is estimated to be higher than the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2025/2026 period.

Director of Regional Marketing at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Eko Ricky Susanto, said his party was conducting an initial evaluation to map the projection of fuel demand during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026.

"We are still conducting exercises and discussions related to the potential increase in demand for fuel. However, consumption is definitely higher than yesterday's Nataru, because the Ramadan and Idulfitri holiday period is relatively longer," said Eko as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 7.

In the Nataru 2025/2026 period which took place from December 15, 2025 to January 5, 2026, the realization of the distribution of fuel showed variations compared to normal conditions. Gasoline consumption was recorded to increase by 0.9 percent.

Meanwhile, diesel fell 3.4 percent, kerosene fell 6.2 percent, and avtur increased by 5.5 percent.

Eko added that Pertamina Patra Niaga is still monitoring fuel stocks nationwide as the Nataru reverse flow ends. This step will be followed by a review and addition of stocks to ensure supply resilience ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

"We are building up stock. The target is, before Ramadan or early February, the condition of national stock to the terminal is in a safe state," he explained.

Regarding the impact of post-disaster recovery in several areas of Sumatra, Eko ensured that the provision of fuel for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 would continue to run normally.

According to him, the highest energy consumption is still concentrated on Java Island.

"Regions outside Java such as South Sumatra and North Sumatra do have significant consumption, but not as high as Java. Currently, the distribution of energy in the affected areas is also gradually returning to normal," he said.

He added that Pertamina facilities were not directly affected by the disaster. The previous obstacle was more due to access to the gas station which was cut off due to landslides and bridges collapsing.

"Now it has started the recovery phase. Hopefully within a month the access can recover completely," said Eko.
