iPhone 17e Leaks Indicate Dynamic Island and A19 Chip, Apple Starts Cleaning Up the "e" Line
Jakarta - Apple seems to be preparing to improve the reputation of the iPhone "e" line, which has been considered half-baked. The latest leak says the iPhone 17e will come with a Dynamic Island and an A19 chip, an improvement that, at least on paper, answers criticism of the iPhone 16e, which is considered too compromising.
This information comes from a leaker named Smart Pikachu, who claims that the iPhone 17e will abandon the old notch and switch to a pill-shaped Dynamic Island design. This change will make the front view of the iPhone 17e much more in line with modern iPhone models, while also bringing Apple's signature interactive features for notifications and real-time activities.
Visually, this is not just cosmetic, but a signal that Apple wants the "e" line to look more relevant in the midst of mid-premium phone competition.
In terms of performance, the iPhone 17e is said to use an underclocked version of the A19 chip. Although it is not a full flagship variant, its performance is expected to be close to the A17 Pro. For comparison, the iPhone 16e uses the A18 with a downgraded GPU.
If this leak is accurate, the iPhone 17e should be comfortable enough to run heavy games and apps on medium settings, without the overkill claims that Apple usually saves for Pro models.
However, this leak is not entirely without question marks. Another tipster, Digital Chat Station, previously mentioned similar specifications, but there were initial reports that Apple may still use an iPhone 14-based OLED panel like the iPhone 16e, albeit with thinner bezels. If the old panel is maintained, the chances of the presence of Dynamic Island become less certain, given the limitations of the screen design.
As for the release schedule, Smart Pikachu claims mass production will begin shortly after CES 2026, leading to a spring launch this year. The price is said to remain in the $599 range, although pressure from global memory shortages could force Apple to make adjustments. It should be noted that the track record of this leaker for Apple products is still relatively limited, so this information should be read as a signal of direction, not a final decision.
If this leak proves true, the iPhone 17e has the potential to be a turning point for the "e" series: no longer a frugal iPhone with a sense of guilt, but a rational option for users who want a modern design and solid performance without having to enter the Pro price range. Apple seems to be aware, in the 2026 market, half a step forward is not enough
