Motorola Shows off Razr Fold at CES 2026, Finally Entering the Big Screen Foldable Arena
JAKARTA - After years of being a spectator as Samsung, Google, and other players pushed the foldable phone market, Motorola is finally getting in the ring. At CES 2026, the company teased the public with the Razr Fold, Motorola's first book-style foldable device that marks a major strategy shift in the Razr line.
There's no full launch yet. Motorola has only given an initial preview and a handful of key specifications. But the signal is clear enough: this is not a half-baked experiment. The Razr Fold is positioned as an "ultra phone", Motorola's internal term for a device with high-end specifications across the board.
In terms of screen, the Razr Fold carries a 8.1-inch main screen with a 2K resolution with an LTPO panel, while the external screen is 6.6 inches in size. This figure puts it on par, even slightly above, some of the big foldables already on the market. Motorola like to jump straight into the big leagues, without warming up.
The camera sector is also made aggressively. The Razr Fold is equipped with a 50MP Sony LYTIA main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera that also serves as a macro, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, there is a 32MP camera on the outer screen and 20MP on the inside. The approach feels "all-in", as if Motorola wanted to dispel the stigma that foldables always compromise on cameras.
As for the guts, Motorola has not confirmed the details. However, in a briefing session ahead of CES, the company indicated that the Razr Fold would bring the highest specifications available at launch. This opens up the possibility of using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, although there is no official confirmation. In other words, performance should not be a matter of debate - at least on paper.
The Razr Fold also supports the Moto Pen Ultra stylus, signaling that Motorola is serious about pursuing productivity, not just style. The colors prepared are consistent with their design identity, namely PANTONE Blackened Blue and PANTONE Lily White.
In addition to mobile phones, Motorola took advantage of CES 2026 to introduce an ecosystem of accessories that they call "moto things". One of them is the new moto watch that does not run Wear OS, but promises up to 13 days of battery life. The watch is IP68 certified and compatible with standard 22mm straps, clearly targeting users who are tired of smartwatches that have to be charged every night.
Motorola also officially announced the Moto Pen Ultra, a stylus designed to work optimally with the Razr Fold and offer a "smart" stylus experience, although technical details are still scarce.
The last product is the moto tag 2, the latest generation tracker with a battery life of up to 500 days. This device supports UWB, Bluetooth Channel Surrounding, and is integrated with Find Hub for tracking items.
In terms of availability, Motorola is still playing it safe. The Moto watch will go on sale on January 22 via Motorola's official website. The Moto Pen Ultra is scheduled to arrive in North America in the next few months, while the moto tag 2 does not yet have a definite release date.
With the Razr Fold, Motorola seems to want to prove that they are not just following trends, but ready to challenge the dominance of old players in the large screen foldable market. This is indeed just a teaser, but the message is quite loud: Motorola is late, but doesn't want to look half-baked.
