Simpang Rampa-Sibolga Road via Batu Lubang in North Sumatra Still Disrupted After the Flood English: Simpang Rampa-Sibolga Road via Batu Lubang in North Sumatra Still Disrupted After the Flood

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) admitted that there was still one segment of the road cut off in North Sumatra Province (Sumut) after the late November 2025 flood and landslide. The road in question, namely Simpang Rampa-Sibolga via Batu Lubang.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the road section was still cut off due to landslides and cliffs in five locations with unstable soil conditions.

"Currently, there is still one segment of the road that is cut off, namely Simpang Rampa-Sibolga via Batu Lubang due to landslides on slopes and cliffs in five locations with unstable soil conditions," Dody said in a written statement, Wednesday, January 7.

Emergency handling for the Simpang Rampa-Sibolga segment is not yet possible at this time. However, said Dody, his party plans to carry out permanent handling through the diversion of the road route.

"However, access to Tarutung-Sibolga can still be passed through the Tarutung-Rampa-Poriaha route with restrictions for small vehicles," he said.

Meanwhile, the Tarutung-Sipirok corridor along 68 kilometers (km) has now been fully connected again, although improvements to temporary roads (detours) are still being carried out for the safety of road users.

The Batangtoru-Singkuang corridor has also been connected and can be passed by light vehicles, but still requires filling, repair and compaction of aggregates because it is still often rainy.

In the Sibolga-Batangtoru corridor, the installation of a 33-meter-span bailey bridge at the Aek Garoga 2 Bridge and a 44-meter-long bailey bridge on the Garoga 3 River has been completed and functional.

Access to Sibolga City can now be reached through several alternative national and provincial roads, although some are still limited to small vehicles.

Dody explained that the most affected section was on the Tarutung City Border - Central Tapanuli Regency Border - Sibolga section, reaching 176 points and the Tarutung - Sipirok section as many as 55 points.

Of the 23 locations where the road was broken, 17 points had been re-functionalized, while one point on the Aek Puli B Bridge was not handled because there was a duplicate bridge.

At least, there are 263 landslide points, 19 points of broken roads, 65 points of collapsed roads, seven points of broken/damaged bridges, and 28 points of flood puddles handled by the PU Ministry in North Sumatra Province.

It was recorded that as of January 6, 2026 at 20.00 WIB, 263 landslide points had been handled, 14 broken road points were functional, 65 collapsed road points were handled, seven broken/damaged bridge points had been re-functionalized, and 28 flood puddles had receded.

To support the acceleration of handling, continued Dody, his party has deployed 137 units of heavy equipment, consisting of loaders, excavators, backhoe loaders, vibro rollers, dozers, motor graders, dump trucks, flat bed trucks, and trucks.

"We will continue to monitor and handle the follow-up until all road and bridge networks are safe and reliable for the community," he added.
