Gas Cylinder Explodes, Housewife Thrown
JAKARTA - A housewife named Venny Hermawati (41) was thrown outside the house and was seriously injured due to an explosion caused by a 12-kilogram gas cylinder leak on Jalan Jelambar III, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, Wednesday morning.
"From the first witness who saw it, there were victims who were thrown out with the condition that the whole body was injured by the explosion and the smell of gas," said the Head of RT 14 RW 07, Wenny Trisuarni at the location, Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Based on information from the family, said Wenny, the victim suffered burns to about 80 percent of his body.
"If the last condition, (information) from the family (the victim was injured) was about 80 percent. That's the condition, because the shirt was torn," said Wenny.
Then the victim was immediately taken to the Royal Trauma Hospital by residents using a private car.
"He was taken to the Royal Trauma Hospital. It was brought by residents using a car," said Wenny.
According to Wenny, the gas cylinder did not explode, but the 12 kilogram (kg) gas leaked and filled the room of the house since the evening.
"Actually the tube didn't explode. The gas was 12 kilos. From Damkar, it was suspected that it was because of the pungent smell of gas. The gas had been leaking overnight, because the room was closed, there was no ventilation," he said.
la added, the temporary explosion occurred while the victim was active in the morning.
"His name is mother, he must want to prepare food. It is possible that he has activities, but this is only a suspicion because the victim is also seriously injured," he said.
In addition to the victim's house, two other houses around the location were also affected by the explosion.
At the location, the front and inside of the house were severely damaged. Building debris scattered to the road.
The Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Officer (PPSU) of Jelambar Village also carried out the cleaning of building materials that collapsed due to the explosion.
