2 Regions in Aceh End Emergency Response Status, Switch to Transition
BANDA ACEH - Two disaster-affected areas in Aceh, namely North Aceh Regency and Bener Meriah, ended the emergency response status for disasters and established an emergency transition period towards post-disaster recovery at the end of November 2025.
"The transition period is an important phase to ensure that the recovery is planned and coordinated," said the Regional Secretary (Sekda) and Chairman of the Aceh Emergency Disaster Response Post, M Nasir, in Banda Aceh, Wednesday, January 7, reported by ANTARA.
In North Aceh, the local government has set a one-month emergency transition period towards recovery, from January 6 to February 5, 2026.
Now, North Aceh is focusing on rehabilitation and reconstruction, including accelerating the preparation of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P).
The R3P is the main reference for recovery, so all local government OPDs are asked to move quickly.
Meanwhile, Bener Meriah Regency has also set the status of emergency transition to recovery for 90 days, starting from January 7 to April 6, 2026.
Based on the information, the Bener Meriah Communication and Information Service, this transition period is explained as a step to bridge emergency handling towards comprehensive recovery, especially in the social, economic, and infrastructure aspects of affected communities.
However, the disaster command system is still running, the basic needs of the community continue to be met, protection for groups, and early social and economic recovery.
M Nasir emphasized that this determination marked the end of the emergency response phase and the start of the focus on rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He appealed that throughout the transition period of recovery, the public remained vigilant against the potential for subsequent disasters and supported the recovery process so that people's lives could return to normal immediately.
The Aceh government, he continued, encouraged the affected districts to accelerate the data collection of damage and the restoration of basic services.
"Also, improving infrastructure so that post-disaster handling is really targeted," said M Nasir.
