YOGYAKARTA - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has come under the spotlight and has sparked public anger after his statement that electricity had been restored in areas affected by floods and landslides in Aceh. Brief Biography of Bahlil Lahadalia

Bahlil Lahadalia was born in Banda, Central Maluku, on August 7, 1976, from Lahadalia and Nurjani. Bahlil embraced Islam and grew up in a simple family environment.

Bahlil's parents live with economic limitations. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother is a laundry worker. He is the second child of nine siblings.

In his personal life, Bahlil is married to Sri Suparni. From this marriage, they were blessed with five children.

Childhood and Life Struggle

Since his early childhood, Bahlil has been accustomed to facing a hard life. When he was in elementary school, he helped the family economy by selling cakes. This business was done so that he would not be a burden on his parents.

When he entered SMP and SMA, Bahlil worked as a conductor and angkot driver. Even though he had to divide his time between school and work, his performance was still outstanding. He was even trusted to be the head of the student council at his school.

Bahlil's father died in 2010 due to lung disease. This event further strengthened his determination to change the fate of the family. This bitter experience formed a hardworking and independent character.

Education, Career, and Politics

Bahlil's basic education was completed at East Kolaka Elementary School and Kolaka 1 State Junior High School. He then continued his secondary education at YAPIS High School, Fakfak. After graduating, Bahlil continued his higher education at the Port Numbay Institute of Economics, Jayapura.

During his college years, Bahlil was known to be active in student organizations. He joined the Islamic Student Association (HMI) and was active in various campus activities. This activity shaped his leadership and social networking.

The combination of formal education and work experience from childhood has become an important capital for Bahlil. He graduated from college with mature mental readiness. This helped him quickly develop in the professional world.

After graduating from college, Bahlil worked at a state-owned company, Sucofindo. However, he chose to resign to start his own business. Together with his colleagues, he founded PT Rifa Capital, PT Bersama Papua Unggul, and PT Dwijati Sukses.

Through PT Rifa Capital, Bahlil managed to establish more than ten companies. This success led him to become the General Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) for the period 2015-2019. This position is an important point in his national career.

His closeness to the government made Bahlil trusted to join the Jokowi-Ma'ruf National Campaign Team in the 2019 Presidential Election. He was then appointed as the Head of BKPM for the period 2019-2024. His political career continued to rise.

On April 28, 2021, Bahlil was inaugurated by President Jokowi as Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM. He is active again in national politics in the 2024 presidential election by supporting Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. In the contest, Bahlil was trusted as the Head of the Strategic Working Team.

After the 2024 presidential election, Bahlil was inaugurated by President Jokowi as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on August 19, 2024. He replaced Arifin Tasrif in that position. A few days later, Bahlil was appointed as the General Chairman of the Golkar Party.

Bahlil again served as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources during the presidency of President Prabowo Subianto. He was inaugurated on October 21, 2024, marking the continuation of his role in the national government.
